Photo size calculation
8 × 10 pixels at 300 DPI
An 8 × 10 inch print uses a 4:5 aspect ratio, which differs from many camera files.
Why cropping is common
Most interchangeable-lens cameras produce 3:2 images. To fill an 8 × 10 frame, crop the long edge or accept borders.
Resolution is not the only quality factor
Focus, compression, sharpening and enlargement history can all affect the final print. Pixel count is a necessary check, not a guarantee.
Prepare the final export
Crop first, resize only if necessary, apply output sharpening carefully and export in the colour profile requested by the printer.
